A Perfect Escape: Malaysia in February 2026

February couldn’t have come at a better time this year. With winter still clinging on at home, we set off in search of sunshine, culture, and a much-needed reset—and Malaysia delivered on all fronts.

The journey began with a long-haul flight from London to Kuala Lumpur with British Airways, flying in premium economy. It was, without exaggeration, a fantastic way to travel. The extra legroom, wider seats, and upgraded dining made a real difference, especially on an overnight flight. Being able to stretch out, enjoy a glass of wine, and actually get some rest meant I arrived feeling refreshed and ready to explore rather than jet-lagged and groggy. For anyone considering the upgrade, we’d say it’s absolutely worth it for a trip of this length.

Kuala Lumpur: A Vibrant Start

We spent the first four nights in Kuala Lumpur, staying at the stunning EQ Hotel. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we’d made the right choice. The hotel strikes that perfect balance between modern luxury and warm Malaysian hospitality. The rooms were spacious and beautifully designed, with incredible views of the city skyline—especially magical at night.

Kuala Lumpur itself is a city of contrasts in the best possible way. One moment you’re standing beneath the towering Petronas Twin Towers, and the next you’re wandering through bustling street markets filled with the scent of sizzling satay and freshly cooked nasi lemak. I spent my days exploring neighbourhoods like Bukit Bintang, sampling local food, and soaking in the energy of the city.

Evenings often ended back at the hotel’s rooftop bar, watching the sun dip below the skyline with a cocktail in hand. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

One of the highlights of the 4-night stay was visiting the Batu Caves, a series of huge caves around 400 million years old, and are an important Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Murugan, a deity especially revered by Tamil Hindus. We took a Grab (The Malaysia version of Uber), and headed out the 20 miles to the shrine. Top Tip: Grab is an excellent, cost-effective and very convenient means of travel in Malaysia.

We choose to visit in the morning as it was cooler, but the crowds were already building even at 09:30. The walk to the top of the main cave, with the huge 140 ft gold statue of Lord Murugan, was a lot easier going back down than going up, but it was worth the effort.

Langkawi: Pure Relaxation

After the buzz of Kuala Lumpur, it was time to slow things down. A short domestic flight took us to Langkawi, where I spent a blissful week switching into full relaxation mode.

Langkawi is everything you want from a tropical escape—soft sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and lush greenery stretching as far as the eye can see. The pace of life here is wonderfully unhurried. Days were spent lounging by the beach, swimming in the warm sea, and occasionally venturing out to explore waterfalls or take in the views from the Langkawi Sky Bridge.

Our hotel was the Ritz-Carlton, located just a few minutes from Langkawi airport. We arranged a taxi transfer with the hotel, which was worth the experience of being transported in a top-of-the range E-class Mercedes! A review of the hotel will be written separately, as there is much to tell! Suffice to say it was wonderful in every way.

Sunsets quickly became a daily ritual. There’s something special about watching the sky turn shades of orange and pink while listening to the gentle sound of the waves. It’s the kind of simplicity that reminds you how little you actually need to feel content. One thing to note though – whilst the beaches are beautiful, there were a lot of jellyfish, which meant very little swimming for us!

Final Thoughts

This trip was the perfect combination of city energy and island calm. Kuala Lumpur offered culture, food, and excitement, while Langkawi provided the space to truly unwind and recharge.

Travelling in February turned out to be ideal—great weather, plenty of sunshine, and a welcome escape from the cold back home. Coupled with a comfortable flight experience and some exceptional accommodation, it’s a trip I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

If you’re considering Malaysia for your next getaway, I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s a destination that truly has it all.
