Turquoise Dreams & Upgrade Schemes: Two Trips to Paradise at Siyam World

Some places leave a mark on you. Others quietly take a piece of your heart and make sure you come back for more. Siyam World did both.

My wife and I first travelled there in February 2024 (which just so happens to coincide with her birthday), chasing winter sun and a bit of escapism. By the time we left, we already knew—this wouldn’t be a one-off. Sure enough, February 2025 saw us doing it all over again… only this time, we knew exactly how to do it right.

The Journey: From “Decent” to Decadent

We kicked things off flying with Virgin in Economy Delight. And to be fair, it was decent—extra legroom, a bit more comfort, and that small but meaningful sense that you’re starting your holiday before you’ve even landed. It set the tone nicely: relaxed, easy, no complaints.

But the real magic came on the way back.

On a bit of a whim, we put in a bid for an upgrade—and somehow, luck was on our side. Returning in Upper Class felt like we’d cracked some secret code. From the moment we stepped onboard, everything shifted: space, service, the ability to properly stretch out and toast the end of an unforgettable week. It wasn’t just a flight home—it was part of the holiday itself.

The Seaplane: Where It All Becomes Real

If the flight gets you there, the seaplane makes it real.

After landing in the Maldives, we spent about two hours in Siyam’s lounge—and honestly, we didn’t mind one bit. Comfortable seating, cool drinks, and that buzzing anticipation as you watch seaplanes come and go. It’s the kind of wait that builds excitement rather than draining it.

Then comes the moment: stepping onto the seaplane, engines humming, water all around you. As you lift off and the islands scatter beneath like tiny emeralds in a sea of impossible blue, it hits you—this is going to be special.

Both years, that flight was unforgettable.

Arrival: The Warmest Welcome

Touching down at Siyam World feels less like checking into a resort and more like being welcomed into something genuinely joyful.

The staff don’t just greet you—they celebrate your arrival. Smiles, music, that sense that they’re genuinely pleased to see you. After a long journey, it’s exactly what you need. Within minutes, you’re shedding travel fatigue and slipping straight into island mode.

Food, Glorious Food (But Plan Ahead!)

One of Siyam World’s standout features is the sheer variety of restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, bold Asian flavours, or something comforting and familiar, there’s always somewhere new to try.

But here’s the key lesson we learned—especially on our second trip: book early.

Using the Sun Siyam App to reserve restaurants is essential if you want the best selection of dining times. In 2025, we were a bit too relaxed about it and missed out on a couple of spots we had our eye on. By 2026, we were seasoned pros—booking ahead and structuring our evenings around the experiences we didn’t want to miss.

Trust me, a little planning goes a long way here.

The Setting: Blues You Didn’t Know Existed

The Maldives has a reputation, but even that doesn’t quite prepare you.

The climate in February is about as perfect as it gets—warm, sunny, with just enough breeze to keep everything comfortable. Days melt into evenings without a hint of urgency.

And then there’s the water.

The sea is a living palette of blues—shallow, crystal-clear lagoons shifting into deeper, richer tones further out. It’s the kind of colour that doesn’t look real, even when you’re standing in it.

Snorkelling quickly became one of our favourite daily rituals. Just steps from the villa, you’re surrounded by vibrant coral and marine life going about its business completely unfazed by your presence. Every swim feels like discovering something new—flashes of colour, darting fish, the quiet rhythm of the reef.

It’s peaceful, mesmerising, and just a little addictive.

Why We Went Back (And Why We’d Go Again)

Returning in 2026 wasn’t just about reliving the same trip—it was about deepening it.

We knew the rhythms of the island, the best times to snorkel, the restaurants to prioritise, and how to make the most of every moment. And yet, it still felt fresh. That’s the magic of a place like Siyam World—it doesn’t get old, it just gets better.

From “decent” flights to unexpected luxury, from seaplane thrills to coral-filled mornings, it’s the kind of experience that stays with you long after your tan fades.

And honestly? We’re already talking about going back, but for a few years. Too much else to see.
